Certified medical illustrators also take a written exam and submit a portfolio to the AMI/AMA board for review and approval to become certified. The result of this rigorous medical education, certification and continuing education is the ability to readily comprehend and distill complex medical information into accurate and concise visual presentations that are easily understood by the layperson.
